UNISOC Leverages Digital Technology for Industry Transformation

MWC Barcelona 2022, held in Barcelona, Spain from 28 February to 3 March 2022, focused around five key themes: CloudNet, 5G Connect, Internet of Everything (IoE), Tech Horizon, and Advancing Artificial Intelligence (AI). The theme on IoT attracted much attention, with MWC 2022 expressing that Internet of Things (IoT) will be the next revolution of the digitally connected world. As a member of GSM Association (GSMA), the event organizer, Unisoc (Shanghai) Technologies Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “UNISOC”) has been deep-diving into the field of IoT and driving the development of the digital world.

With the development of the information network, the society of the future is expected to herald an IoT era. From as small as every drop of water and every watt of energy to as large as a whole factory and entire city, smart IoT is expected to infiltrate every area of life. As the world’s leading supplier of Internet of Things (IoT) chips and with classic industrial scenarios of the future intelligent society as its starting point, UNISOC provides comprehensive IoT solutions including 5G/LTE Cat.7/LTE Cat.4 targeted at high-speed scenarios, LTE Cat.1 targeted at medium-speed scenarios and wide-area, low-power NB-IoT/GSM targeted at low-speed scenarios.

In the area of 5G IoT technologies targeted at high-speed scenarios, after the 5G R16 standard was frozen in July 2020, UNISOC was the first to invest in research and development of advanced technologies and led the release of UNISOC’s 5G R16 Ready technology solution in 2021, targeted at the few features that were most urgently needed in 5G To B application. It prioritized the development, pushed forward the deployment and launched the industry’s first baseband chip platform Tangula V516 that supports 5G R16 Ready. UNISOC joined hands with partners such as operators to launch the world’s first end-to-end business verification based on 3GPP R16 standards, establishing a key milestone in the commercialization journey of 5G R16. The Tangula V516 platform is targeted at industrial IoT scenarios, and can achieve various 5G R16 use cases such as smart grid differential protection, high-precision machine collaboration and industrial local area network through features such as high-precision timing by nanoseconds and 5G local area network management, leading 5G to further empower countless industries and enterprises, and creating a new digital ecology.

In the area of IoT technologies targeted at medium-low-speed scenarios, the world’s first IoT chip LTE Cat.1bis platform 8910DM by UNISOC fills the medium-speed cellular communication gap between traditional low-power, wide-area Narrow Band-IoT and traditional Broadband IoT. Since its release, hundreds of millions of units have been sold, and it has rapidly risen to become the benchmark for medium-speed IoT chips, with its advanced technical specifications and leading technological maturity. Dozens of Cat.1bis modules powered by UNISOC’s 8910DM chips have gone to market, and are widely implemented in various fields and scenarios, including shared economy, financial payments, public network intercom, energy and industrial control etc.

IoT is no longer just a simple slogan, and a beautiful world of intelligent connections is beginning to unfold right before our eyes. With all-scenarios connection technologies as the foundation, UNISOC has integrated smart computing into all our products, effectively providing underlying technologies to support the digital transformation of industries and societies. In future, UNISOC will proactively join hands with industry partners to drive richer industrial terminal innovation and innovations in industrial solutions. At present, more than hundreds of vertical industries have implemented UNISOC’s 5G chips and witnessed how 5G technology empowers industries such as smart logistics, smart electric power, smart mining, smart transport, smart manufacturing, smart healthcare etc., doing its part to support the digital transformation of countless industries and enterprises.
