SAMENA Council Leaders’ Summit 2018

The (South Asia-Middle East-North Africa) SAMENA Telecommunications Council and Huawei, a leading global ICT solutions provider, hosted the annual Telecom Leaders’ Summit in Dubai on 3 May, 2018.  The theme of the summit was “Building the Digital Economy of the Middle East”.

The one-day event was a platform for private and government sector leaders in the telecommunications sector to discuss opportunities and challenges the industry faces.

Mats Granryd, Director General of the GSMA, was a key note speaker at the event. “From 5G and Artificial Intelligence to the Internet of Things and big data, and far beyond, mobile and ICT have a profound and lasting impact on individuals, industries and society across the region,” he said.

“I am honoured to join leaders from industry and government this week at the Telecom Leaders’ Summit 2018 to explore the opportunities and challenges ahead of us as we build the digital economy of the Middle East,” he added.

Together with the President of Huawei Technologies in the Middle East, Charles Yang, and SAMENA Council’s chairman of the board, Nasser Al Nasser, Mats Granryd reflected on how the future is becoming transformational and how preparation for 5G roll-out and quantum-computing capability are paving the path for AI and an utterly new generation of digital experiences.

The event encouraged participants to discuss policies that can drive progress of telecom sector governance and regulation in the region to support the evolving scope, dynamics, and needs of the telecommunications industry, while ensuring its path to growth and sustainability.
