Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel launched the Mobitel ‘Liyasara’ package on International Women’s Day in the presence of Sri Lanka’s First Lady Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa and other dignitaries at a special event at Temple Trees, the official residence of the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. The first Liyasara SIM card was presented to the First Lady, Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa.

Mobitel conducted extensive research with its partners prior to designing the Mobitel ‘Liyasara’ package. Observations made during this exercise showed that women based in rural areas in the country have no access to reliable and consistent information relating to maternal health, child psychology, cancer awareness and other important health concerns, which are essential to their daily lives. Facing great inconvenience and discomfort, these hard-working women were having to make unnecessary trips to central parts of Sri Lanka for proper guidance from experts relating to their issues.

The Mobitel ‘Liyasara’ special package was therefore created with the aim of empowering Sri Lankan women by granting unlimited and convenient access to credible information disseminated in all three national languages by expert institutions such as the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Cerebral Palsy Lanka Foundation, Sri Lanka College of Oncologists and the Perinatal Society of Sri Lanka.
