You are warmly invited to our first GSMA Intelligence, Mobile for Development Coffeehouse, ‘The Rising Use of Mobile Data.’ This informal, in-person event will enable those interested in developing commercial mobile services that have positive social impact – or ‘mobile for development’ (M4D) services – to meet others in the space and explore key M4D themes through a mix of presentations, interactive panel discussions and vibrant Q&A.

Our first event will explore the rising use of mobile data, and the effect it has on the M4D sector. In recent years there has been an increasing level of data usage among mid to low income populations despite the fact that smartphone penetration remains low.

Using our recent insights pieces, Mobile Platform Wars and Bringing the Unconnected Onlineto frame the discussion, the session will kick off by examining how the different internet players in the mobile space will evolve over the next 5 years as the next wave of mobile internet users are brought online from emerging markets. We’ll then introduce the GSMA Digital Inclusion initiative, which aims to increase mobile internet usage by underserved populations in developing countries to achieve greater digital inclusion, progress development impacts and improve economic opportunities. Kojo Boakye, Policy and Advocacy Manager, Alliance for Affordable Internet (A4AI) will also share an overview of the global coalition working to make broadband affordable for all.

We look forward to your participation and to an insightful session. Please feel free to share this invitation with your network.

Best regards,

GSMA Intelligence, Mobile for Development Team
