GSMA mWomen BOP Apps Challenge winner awarded first place in Vodafone Mobile Clicks

We’re excited to share that FrogTek’s TiendaTek, the winner of the GSMA mWomen BOP App Challenge smartphone tier, has WON the Vodafone Mobile Clicks Challenge. Vodafone Mobile Clicks is an international contest to identify and develop the best mobile internet start-ups in Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, the Republic of Ireland, Spain, Turkey and the United Kingdom. Winning the first prize of €150,000 means that FrogTek can dedicate more resources to marketing the app to consumers.

These consumers are the savvy businesswomen running the majority of microentreprises that serve base of the pyramid consumers with food and groceries from small corner shops. Although these shopkeepers are smart ladies, often their efficiency is limited due to lack of access to education. TiendaTek is a smartphone application which uses an Android smart phone and a barcode reader to enable a shopkeeper to keep track of all the transactions in her shop and identify the areas for improvement. She can also receive education, connect to her suppliers and sell virtual goods, such as mobile pre-paid airtime and micro-insurance. In turn, she will generate more income from her shop and save time for her family or other pursuits.
