This case study, led by the GSMA Mobile for Development Utilities programme in partnership with Orange, explores the opportunity for mobile technology and mobile operators to support smart solutions for improved energy access in Botswana. The study gives insights into some of the main challenges that energy providers face and the deployments of metering technology to respond to these challenges. The study also provides an estimate of the market opportunity for deploying mobile enabling services and smart meters, across rural and urban areas in Botswana.
