In 2021, against the backdrop of the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, humanitarian needs continued to rise. Disasters from climate-related hazards, displacement caused by conflict, and food insecurity – sometimes in combination, remained a stark reality for millions. We closed 2021 with 274 million people expected to require humanitarian assistance and protection in 2022. Despite this grim prospect, it is encouraging to see mobile-enabled digital technology providing tangible solutions and services to those impacted by humanitarian crises.

The work of M4H to date has demonstrated that communities in crisis situations continue to prioritise digital technology to communicate, seek and share information and increasingly to access humanitarian assistance.

This annual report provides an overview of some of our key activities and successes in 2021. Together with our partners and affected communities, we invested in innovation and enabled collaboration to enable digital transformation and make a tangible difference to those in need.
