Inclusion

Breaking down barriers to digital inclusion through technology education in the USA

Millions of young people in the USA do not have the skills to flourish in the digital economy. To help address this, Verizon has created Verizon Innovative Learning Schools in over 150 schools across the USA to date, with a goal of reaching up to 350 schools by 2021. Verizon uses its technology and resources to help some Title 1 middle school students be more inspired and engaged in school and to be more prepared to build better lives for themselves, their families and their communities. In 2012, Verizon made a commitment to help foster digital inclusion in its education.

Verizon has set up state-of-the-art Innovative Learning Labs within its VILS program.  In doing so, these schools give students greater opportunities to have hands-on experience with new technologies, such as virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI.)

As part of its commitment to transforming education and providing a path to a better future for middle school students across the country, Verizon will also bring state of the art technology and 5G access to select schools that qualify and welcome the service.

Verizon’s Innovative Learning programme has already given more than a million children access to technology education and aims to help another two million by 2021.

“5G technology will provide extraordinary opportunities in education,” notes Rose Kirk, Chief Corporate Social Responsibility Officer at Verizon. “The students and teachers in our Verizon Innovative Learning Schools will be at the forefront of this innovation and among the first to explore these transformative 5G learning solutions.”
