Creating a wave of young digital entrepreneurs in Africa

Creating a wave of young digital entrepreneurs in Africa

For many young people around the world, economic opportunities can be limited. Youth unemployment in Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of the Congo, is high and it can be difficult to find work or start a business. To address this challenge, the MTN Congo Foundation launched a programme called Y’ello Start-Up.

This programme encourages young Congolese (aged 18 to 35) to design and deploy innovative ICT solutions and apps that help to resolve social and economic problems in areas such as health and education. More than 100 people applied for Y’ello Start-Up in 2017/18 and 10 entrepreneurs were chosen to receive training that will enable them to run successful digital businesses. The winning solutions included an app that helps users to locate the nearest pharmacy and order products for delivery.

MTN’s Y’ello Start-Up incubator programme encourages young people to innovate, generate income and improve their livelihoods. As a key socio-economic enabler, connectivity is helping young people in the city of Brazzaville to work towards a brighter future.
