Giving kids a head start with media literacy

It is vital that children have access to good information about how to use online media positively and safely so that they can shape their digital spaces. Deutsche Telekom provides a free magazine called Scroller, which includes tips, games, puzzles and stories about digital technology.

Part of the company’s Teachtoday initiative, Scroller magazine is aimed at 9 to 12-year-olds and is published in both German and English. It is available online or as a printed version in T-Shops and to order. The magazine team, which includes a group of youth reporters, covers a range of topics, including social networking, data security, cyberbullying and how mobile technology helps refugee children to stay in touch.

Recommended by the German Reading Foundation, more than 23,000 copies of Scroller magazine have been distributed to date.
