Sexual Exploitation

Reducing child sexual abuse content in the Nordics and Asia

Telenor Norway was one of the first mobile operators in the world to take steps to prevent the spread of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) online. In 2004, it partnered with the National Criminal Investigation Service in Norway and developed technical solutions to help prevent access to CSAM.

Since then, Telenor has put a range of measures in place across all of its mobile operations in the Nordics and Asia to combat the distribution of CSAM. This includes working closely with INTERPOL, the GSMA and other organisations, such as Child Helpline International, to combat the online sexual exploitation of children. The company commits funds to Child Helpline International to build capacity on internet safety issues.

“Sadly, mobile and connectivity can be misused and one of the most tragic signs of that is the production of child sexual abuse material,” comments Ola Jo Tandre, Vice President of Sustainability at Telenor Group. “Together with law enforcement and the GSMA, we have been able to put protective mechanisms in place and set up an alliance of mobile operators to discuss what we can do together as an industry.”
