Today the GSMA announced that the Global Mobile Awards 2012, which recognise excellence, achievement and innovation within the mobile communications industry, are now open for entry. The Global Mobile Awards will be presented at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Tuesday 28th February 2012.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow in the 17th year, the Global Mobile Awards continue to celebrate and showcase the creativity, diversity and talent that drive the mobile communications industry,\u201d said Michael O\u2019Hara, chief marketing officer, GSMA. \u201cTo honour the very best achievements, we have introduced new awards to reflect developments in innovation, apps, services, devices and technology across the entire mobile ecosystem. Global Mobile Awards for 2012 will be presented in the following categories:<\/p>\n
The GSMA is introducing key enhancements to the 2012 awards and in total, 32 awards will be presented over the eight categories, with 18 new awards reflecting the broad and constantly evolving mobile ecosystem. First, the GSMA has consolidated the awards in the \u2018Apps of the Year\u2019 category, which is sponsored by Conduit and reflects the continued explosive demand for mobile applications. In that category, the GSMA has introduced three new awards, two of which will be based on statistical evidence of global downloads and usage, and one, the \u2018Most Innovative Mobile App\u2019 award, which is open for entry to all. This category will also include a \u2018Judges\u2019 Choice – Best Overall Mobile App\u2019 award which will be determined by an independent panel of experts.<\/p>\n
The 2012 awards will also expand the \u2018Best Mobile Handsets and Devices\u2019 category with specific awards for \u2018Best Smartphone\u2019, \u2018Best Feature Phone\u2019 and a new \u2018Best Mobile Tablet\u2019 award. In addition, a panel of judges will search for and select the best and most promising \u2018Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet\u2019 on show at the Mobile World Congress 2012 event.<\/p>\n
Additional notable developments are included within the \u2018Mobile Marketing and Advertising\u2019 category to elevate and recognise innovation and creativity within this rapidly emerging sector. The \u2018Mobile Innovation\u2019 category, focused on the convergence of mobile in the vertical sectors such as health, transport, automotive and utilities and education, will now also include specific awards aimed at expansion in mobile publishing and mobile money services. New categories have been introduced within the \u2018Best Technology\u2019 and \u2018Social and Economic Development\u2019 categories, with additions such as \u2018Best Use of Mobile in Emergency or Humanitarian Situations\u2019 and the \u2018mWomen – Best Product or Service for Women in Emerging Markets\u2019.<\/p>\n
The Global Mobile Awards 2012 can be entered online and nominations close on Wednesday 30th November 2011. Entries are open to companies across the entire mobile ecosystem and all products, services, initiatives and programmes entered must support, be deployed over or be accessible through mobile networks.
