Together with technology partner Mobileum, GSMA has developed a new international fraud deterrent system, launched today at MWC21 as a proof-of-concept model. GSMA now invites the global telecoms industry to trial the model.<\/p>\n<p>The invitation is open for a range of global telecoms stakeholders to participate, including mobile and fixed carriers, voice over IP operators, voice and signalling wholesalers around the world. The aim of the trial is to evaluate advanced collaborative fraud and nuisance call prevention techniques.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe US Federal Communications Commission recently <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.fcc.gov\/public\/attachments\/DOC-363399A1.pdf\">said that fraudulent robocall schemes cost Americans approximately $10 billion annually<\/a>, with most perpetrators operating overseas. It\u2019s a challenge faced by citizens globally, which is why we\u2019re calling on telecom operators \u2013 mobile, fixed-line, internet-based and wholesalers \u2013 to share their insights and experience so we can together locate and mitigate these sources of fraudulent activity,\u201d said Alex Sinclair, GSMA CTO.<\/p>\n<p>The joint initiative will trial a series of tools using real fraud incidents, which will help limit a wide variety of fraud and nuisance calls. These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Case handling \u2013 allowing multiple networks to work on a problem<\/li>\n<li>Call path tracing \u2013 to find the source of a call when that source is disguised<\/li>\n<li>Live threat monitoring and alerts \u2013 providing a real time view and warnings about active fraud campaigns<\/li>\n<li>Network identifier address book \u2013 providing an authenticated list of network identifiers<\/li>\n<li>Call validation \u2013 to confirm the provenance of a call<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cBy combining the industry\u2019s collective intelligence and locally based information with our latest technology, we can deliver game-changing support to tackle fraud,\u201d said Rui Paiva, Chief of Risk Management business at Mobileum. \u201cOur cloud-native platform provides the necessary tools to make a material difference, delivering the results and improvements everybody wants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Companies that wish to participate in the trial are invited to contact the <a href=\"mailto:fass@gsma.com?subject=International%20Fraud%20Deterrent%20PoC%20trial%20participation\">GSMA Services Fraud &amp; Security team, <\/a>\u00a0where they will join a growing community of participating fraud prevention organisations. Fixed and VoIP service providers are encouraged to make contact as fraud is an inter-modal problem.
