Presented at MWC25 Barcelona, the accolade highlights Brazil\u2019s recent achievements in mobile evolution through sound spectrum policy and regulatory innovation.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

3 March 2025, Barcelona<\/strong>: Every year, the GSMA, the global association for the mobile industry, honors a country for its impactful progress in digital policy and telecom regulation with the Government Leadership Award. This year\u2019s distinction has been awarded to the Federative Republic of Brazil, marking its third recognition in this special category of the Global Mobile (GLOMO) Awards<\/a>, following acknowledgments in 2005 and 2015. The Award was presented today to Juscelino Filho, Minister of Communications of Brazil, by John Giusti, Chief Regulatory Officer, GSMA, and Lucas Gallitto, Head of Latin America, GSMA, during the opening of the Ministerial Programme<\/a> at MWC Barcelona<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An independent panel of judges selected Brazil for a series of policy decisions that reinforced its role as a regional leader in connectivity and innovation. Brazil took steps to timely release 3.5 GHz spectrum to expedite 5G deployment, to improve regulatory processes through reduced bureaucracy and evidence-based regulation, to support the sunset of 2G and 3G networks, and to authorize spectrum to test and develop satellite direct-to-device services. The country was also commended for prioritizing social impact, converting fines into initiatives for vulnerable women and expanding connectivity for indigenous communities. Its agreement with Colombia to create a “digital highway” through the Amazonas region, linking 13 cities in northern Brazil and the Colombian city of Leticia, marks a key achievement in advancing regional connectivity, with completion set for 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
