Pledge

What is The Multiplier Effect?

The Multiplier Effect is a pledge that challenges leaders in the tech industry to sponsor a highly qualified, diverse candidate for career advancement. Launched at the GSMA Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona, during Cisco’s Connected Women event, it is now being adapted and accelerated by GSMA North America through Women4Tech.

The Women4Tech Pledge is designed to help capable and ambitious women or members of a minority to join the tech sector. By sponsoring and advocating for a diverse candidate, leaders will help to transform the pipeline and change the equation for diversity across the tech industry.

Pledge

The Women4Tech pledge is a personal commitment to:

  • Sponsor a highly-qualified female or diverse candidate for career advancement.
  • Challenge peers to do the same by making the Women4Tech Pledge

Calls to Action:

  • Make the Pledge to sponsor one female or diverse candidate for career advancement.
  • Challenge at least one of your peers to do the same

Why is sponsorship important?

Retaining and growing diverse talent will then be the tech industry’s next challenge, and sponsorship will continue to play a vital role in ensuring that talent is nurtured through useful and fulfilling careers.  Research shows that individuals with a sponsor are 23% more likely to advance in their career, yet only 1 in 8 women have a sponsor, and only 1 in 12 members of minorities have one;  by contrast, 1 in 5 white men have a sponsor.
