Welcome to the autumn edition of GSMA’s Policy Insights, the newsletter that keeps you up to date with regulatory and spectrum issues impacting the mobile sector.
September saw the launch of our coverage campaign, where we find out how collaboration between governments, regulators, and mobile operators can expand rural connectivity. The campaign highlights initiatives that are helping to close coverage and usage gaps - see if your country is featured! Coverage will remain a focus throughout 2020/21 and we will update our campaign page regularly.
Taxation is an important area of GSMA engagement and our report on Mobile Taxation in Ukraine looks at its impact on the mobile sector and the economy. The digitalisation of government services and payments using mobile money is addressed in our person-to-government study.
In a series of regionally focused reports, we explore what we need to do to enhance access to mobile connectivity, ensure digital resilience, and extend access to spectrum. With a particular focus on 5G we highlight the policies required to roll out 5G in MENA; a closer look at the 3.5 GHz range in Latin America;
and getting spectrum award policies right is addressed in-depth in our analysis of spectrum pricing in Africa.
Finally, we feature the 9th GSMA EMF Forum, where EMF risk communication and 5G EMF risk assessments were discussed, and we heard from experts from the European Commission, operators, and ICNIRP.
We hope you enjoy the newsletter, and please do not hesitate to contact us if you require further details on issues highlighted.
