The engagement of governments and law enforcement agencies with the network operator community is a powerful way to deter handset theft. In markets where handset theft is perceived to be a problem, the GSMA strongly encourages the use of GSMA Device Registry to exchange stolen handset data with law enforcement and other operators.
A consumer whose devices have been lost or stolen should be encouraged to contact their mobile network operator and local police for action. As GSMA does not hold the necessary information to authenticate a lost report, we are unable to add consumer reports to the Device Registry or otherwise assist with incidents of device theft.
