{"id":10686,"date":"2024-03-08T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-08T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/solutions-and-impact\/connectivity-for-good\/external-affairs\/?p=10686"},"modified":"2025-11-26T12:07:35","modified_gmt":"2025-11-26T12:07:35","slug":"the-gsma-celebrates-the-successful-conclusion-of-a-three-year-gender-equality-in-stem-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/solutions-and-impact\/connectivity-for-good\/external-affairs\/international-relations\/the-gsma-celebrates-the-successful-conclusion-of-a-three-year-gender-equality-in-stem-project\/","title":{"rendered":"The GSMA Celebrates the Successful Conclusion of a Three Year Gender Equality in STEM Project"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To mark <em>International Women\u2019s Day<\/em> this year the GSMA is celebrating the successful conclusion of a three year capacity building and research project aimed at bridging the gender gap in digital and social innovation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Funded by the EU Horizon 2020 programme, the <a href=\"https:\/\/equals-eu.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EQUALS EU project<\/a> aimed to build capacity in gender-inclusive innovation in Europe and partner countries worldwide with an ambitious and value-driven agenda focused around building smart, sustainable and inclusive social innovation ecosystems in local communities and cities in Europe and the Global North and South.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The GSMA was one of the 19 Consortium Project partners and led all project activities pertaining to the role of public-private partnerships in bridging the gender gap in digital and social innovation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project saw the <a href=\"https:\/\/equals-eu.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/WP1_D1.2_EQUALS-EU_Visual_map_of_stakeholders_according_to_need_interest_power_and_influence.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mapping of gender-inclusive innovation ecosystems<\/a> across 22 countries, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/solutions-and-impact\/connectivity-for-good\/external-affairs\/gender\/gsma-brings-emerging-young-leaders-to-hack-for-digital-and-financial-literacy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a series of innovation camps and hackathons<\/a> including around 450 participants across 25 countries, a <a href=\"https:\/\/equals-eu.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Deliverable-3.1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">six-months incubator programme<\/a> on gender-inclusive entrepreneurship, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/solutions-and-impact\/connectivity-for-good\/external-affairs\/gender\/gsma-convenes-rising-female-innovators-in-tech-for-a-three-week-long-capacity-building-summer-school\/#:~:text=The%20EQUALS%2DEU%20project%20is,gender%20gap%20in%20social%20innovation.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an international summer school<\/a> for future leaders in gender-inclusive innovation and the release of <a href=\"https:\/\/equals-eu.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/101006396_Deliverable-D7_D2.3-EQUALS-EU_Roadmap-and-GE-Tools.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">two gender equity tools for digital inclusion<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"EQUALS EU - 3 Year Project Overview\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2Sg-nXqUlB0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:27px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an effort to disseminate the project\u2019s deliverables and overall impact, vis-a-vis UK policy makers and other relevant stakeholders, the GSMA hosted <em>a high level panel discussion at the UK House of Lords<\/em> at the end of 2023 under the title \u201cBridging the Gender Gap in Social Innovation: Key Findings and Lessons Learnt from Across Europe, the UK and Beyond\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event focused on a discussion reflecting on the project&#8217;s key messaging where it concerns; the role of public-private partnerships in advancing digital gender equality and equity, the role of governments and policymakers in supporting the development of an inclusive digital and social innovation environment and the importance of transforming gender inequity into sustainable social impact.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Welcome remarks were delivered by<s> <\/s>GSMA Director General, Mats Granryd, and Baroness Lorely Burt, with a brief project overview by the GSMA\u2019s Senior International Relations Manager and EQUALS EU Work Package 4 Lead Ms Tamara Dancheva. This was to ensure that the intended outcome not only meets the needs of women users, but is also responsive, impactful and enhances the quality of their lives.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div
