From major emissions reductions to the future of circular devices, companies across the Greater China region are shifting gears and driving meaningful change.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We were there to launch something special \u2014 alongside our global <a href=\"https:\/\/view.gsma.com\/mobile-net-zero-2025\/p\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">State of the Industry on Climate Action<\/a> report we launched our first Mobile Net Zero regional report focused on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/solutions-and-impact\/connectivity-for-good\/external-affairs\/gsma_resources\/mobile-net-zero-greater-china-regional-focus-on-climate-action-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Greater China<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/solutions-and-impact\/connectivity-for-good\/external-affairs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/mwc_shanghai_blog_mnz_900x500.jpg\" alt=\"Four people in business attire stand smiling before a large screen displaying \u201cMobile Net Zero 2025,\u201d booklet covers, a QR code, and a winding river. Operators are starting to bend the emissions curve, showing measurable progress in energy efficiency and renewable energy uptake. But beyond the data, what struck us most was the momentum. Climate ambition isn\u2019t confined to the page \u2014 it\u2019s visible in the leadership, the innovation, and the strategic choices being made today.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-inside-zte-s-5g-smart-factory-nbsp\"><strong>Inside ZTE\u2019s 5G Smart Factory<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>During our visit to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zte.com.cn\/global\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ZTE<\/a>\u2019s 5G Smart Factory in Nanjing, we saw first-hand the advancements being made, providing a compelling view of emerging tech developments.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/solutions-and-impact\/connectivity-for-good\/external-affairs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/mwc_shanghai_blog_ZTE_visit_900x500.jpg\" alt=\"Five people stand indoors in front of a black wall. Robotic arms, guided by AI-powered vision systems, carry out delicate procedures with astonishing precision. Thousands of sensors feed data into a central AI platform that monitors, adjusts, and continuously learns \u2014 keeping everything running smoothly.&nbsp;This is manufacturing at its most advanced. But also, increasingly, at its most sustainable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-gsma-light-grey-background-color has-background\">The GSMA is working on several AI projects across the organisation. It\u2019s not just technology. It\u2019s leadership. More than half the staff at the factory are dedicated to research and development, rather than routine operations. These are companies responsible for hundreds of millions of mobile connections \u2014 and their decisions have major implications for the climate transition across Asia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-gsma-light-grey-background-color has-background\">Are you ready supercharge your climate action journey? Join 77 mobile operators representing more than 80% of global mobile connections in the GSMA&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/solutions-and-impact\/connectivity-for-good\/external-affairs\/climate-action\/climate-action-taskforce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Climate Action Task Force<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The message from leaders was clear: net zero is no longer a distant ambition \u2014 it\u2019s a strategic priority. There was real appetite to share best practices, align on action, and strengthen the relationships needed to move forward together.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-accelerating-china-s-progress\"><strong>Accelerating China&#8217;s progress<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To explore this further, we hosted our first Climate and Sustainability Summit in China, hearing directly from operators, finance experts and device manufacturers about what\u2019s working \u2014 and what still needs to change.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/solutions-and-impact\/connectivity-for-good\/external-affairs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/mwc_shanghai_blog_summit_900x500.jpg\" alt=\"A man in a suit stands on stage presenting a climate targets chart, highlighting mobile operators\u2019 commitments to near-term and net zero goals. More than a million kilowatt-hours have been saved at data centres alone.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, financial institutions are watching closely. As Li Tao, EGS Ratings Director from <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.sina.com.cn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sina Finance<\/a> explained, companies with strong ESG performance \u2014 like China Telecom \u2014 enjoy greater transparency, investor confidence, and ultimately, better access to capital to fund the transition to net zero.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Liu Ziyi from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.climatebridge.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Climate Bridge China<\/a> shared the latest data showing the rapid growth in renewable energy in China. The company has committed to carbon neutrality targets for 2040 (operations) and 2050 (value chain) and is embedding sustainability across hardware and software.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-gsma-light-grey-background-color has-background\">Interested in learning more? Inspired by new European regulations and customer demand, HONOR has committed to seven years of software updates for its flagship Magic series. They are also collaborating with operators to expand their refurbished phone programme.
