Claro, Telecom, and Telef\u00f3nica presented their APIs\u00a0for\u00a0the local market and highlighted the opportunities for collaboration and new partnerships within the digital ecosystem.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

GSMA\u00a0Open Gateway, the global mobile industry initiative aimed at simplifying the development of digital applications and services,\u00a0keeps making progress\u00a0in Argentina. At a forum convened by the GSMA, the global leader of the project, operators Claro, Telecom,<\/strong> and Telef\u00f3nica<\/strong> detailed the advancement of their APIs and\u00a0discussed how standardization can transform mobile networks into open platforms for the digital ecosystem<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GSMA Open Gateway is a standard through which operators provide developers with a series of network functions that are used to create applications and services capable of operating seamlessly on all devices, regardless of the country or operator. This is achieved through unique access points, the APIs (Application Programming Interfaces), which serve as gateways to network capability information. APIs are available through the CAMARA repository, an open-source project by the GSMA and the Linux Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In line with the global trend, the first APIs developed within the framework of GSMA Open Gateway in Argentina are focused on combating fraud and digital scams. They include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u00a0SIM SWAP, which allows recent SIM card changes to be verified;\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u00a0Device Location, which provides precise information about the location of a device;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u00a0Device Status, which indicates whether a device is roaming and in which country;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u00a0Number Verification, which checks that a phone number is associated with a certain device.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

By providing key information in real time, these APIs are valuable in detecting and preventing fraud in financial transactions, making banks and fintech companies among the first interested vertical clients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAt Telecom, we drive innovation by providing solutions that address the market\u2019s most pressing needs. The first APIs we developed under the Open Gateway framework, such as SIM Swap, Number Verification, Device Status, and Device Location, deliver key value in security and anti-fraud for industries like fintech and financial services. These tools offer active protection through secure, reliable, and standardized authentication processes, helping to drastically reduce fraud in a constantly growing digital environment, aligning us with industry demands<\/em>,\u201d highlighted Alejandro Martinez, Business Owner of Connectivity,\u00a0Telecom Argentina.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTelef\u00f3nica is working in a unified and consistent way in the country, alongside other operators, to implement Open Gateway\u2014a concept that the Group championed back in 2023 when it was still relatively unknown. We are aligned with the country\u2019s development plan, focusing on launching anti-fraud and online identity services. Through Open Gateway, we will enhance existing services and contribute to the creation of new possibilities, thanks to the company\u2019s capabilities<\/em>,\u201d noted Gonzalo Fliguer, Regional Product Owner Advertising, Open Gateway & Big Data, Telef\u00f3nica Hispam.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alejandro Adamowicz, Director of Technology and Strategy for Latin America,\u00a0GSMA<\/strong>, concluded: \u201cGSMA Open Gateway is accelerating its progress in Latin America. All countries in the region now have at least one operator integrated\u00a0taking part in the\u00a0initiative, representing over 90% of total users. With Claro, Telecom, and Telef\u00f3nica, Argentina is fully entering the Open Gateway\u00a0era, ensuring 100% coverage of connections in the country<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since its launch at MWC Barcelona 2023, more than 64 mobile operator groups representing 277 networks and three quarters of mobile connections globally now participate in the initiative alongside many of the world\u2019s leading technology companies. In Latin America, last November, Brazil became the first market with multi-operator APIs integrated into GSMA Open Gateway.
