The GSMA is working with the telecoms and aviation sectors to support the digital transformation in aviation through connectivity, digitalisation, and automation, while maintaining a strong focus on safety and regulatory compliance.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today\u2019s aviation systems and processes were designed for human-centric operations and do not scale easily to support widespread use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and eVTOL aircraft for the transport of goods and people. This creates a barrier to growth for advanced air mobility and beyond-visual-line-of-sight operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To address this, aviation authorities, governments, and industry stakeholders are defining new frameworks and technical solutions to enable safe, scalable deployment of unmanned aerial vehicle operations and accelerate the digital transformation in aviation worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drone Interest Group<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Drone Interest Group (DIG), which consists of GSMA members from around the world, focuses on the use of cellular communications and services for unmanned aerial vehicle and uncrewed aerial systems operations. DIG members share industry knowledge and challenges with a view to positioning mobile operators as key enablers of autonomous UAS and beyond visual line-of-sight operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aerial Connectivity Joint Activity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The GSMA and the GUTMA (Global Unmanned Traffic Management Association) have set up the Aerial Connectivity Joint Activity (ACJA) initiative to facilitate engagement between the aviation and mobile sectors and explain how mobile services will benefit UAS and UTM service providers, as well as ANSPs (air navigation service providers) and regulators. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
