This document walks the reader through the different types of certification used for an IoT Device, including regulatory approvals, telecoms industry certification and operator-specific tests. The main focus is on the telecoms industry certification from a 3GPP cellular connectivity perspective, where an overview of the certification process of GCF and PTCRB is provided. The document also explains where IoT Devices fit into certification processes originally intended for mobile phones and smartphones.
