Over the last year, mobile technology\u2019s role in the Internet of Things has grown considerably. Network operators, with their long history of connecting new solutions and experience in multiple markets, are proving themselves to be invaluable partners and are driving growth of the IoT.
\nWith businesses becoming increasingly aware of how the IoT could fundamentally improve everyday services, and their increasing engagement with the mobile industry, we are pleased to announce that the GSMA\u2019s IoT-focused programme \u2018Connected Living\u2019 has been renamed the \u2018Internet of Things\u2019 programme.
\nIn collaboration with the world\u2019s leading operators, the Internet of Things programme will continue its vital work in helping to accelerate the deployment of connected solutions across the automotive<\/a>, smart cities, transport and utilities sectors<\/a>, as well as beginning a new project on drone-related services.
\nCentral to delivering fundamental improvements in these, and many other sectors, is our work on Mobile IoT, the new family of licensed LPWA technologies taking the industry by storm. 2017 has been dubbed by many to be \u2018the year of Mobile IoT\u2019, as multiple operators launch one or more of these new technologies on their commercial networks. In the coming year, we will continue working with operators, developers, device manufacturers and network vendors to develop and deploy these new technologies – any organisation in the ecosystem is welcome to\u00a0collaborate with us and other leading players in this space by becoming a Mobile IoT Innovator<\/a>.
\nBuilding on the release of the\u00a0IoT Big Data API Directory<\/a>, our IoT Big Data project will focus on evolving GSMA big data enablers such as harmonised data sets, APIs to access historical data and inclusion of data analytics into the architecture.
\nTo further help realise potential socioeconomic benefits, the GSMA\u2019s IoT Policy and Regulation<\/a> project will continue to work to create a sustainable policy and regulatory environment that enables operators to unlock the consumer and business benefits of the IoT.
