Asia Pacific (APAC) has a key role to play in the expansion of operator roles beyond connectivity. This region is by far the most connected region on earth: with 120 Mobile IoT networks now deployed worldwide, more than a quarter at 37 are in APAC, which accounts<\/a> for a staggering 97% of all NB-IoT connections globally.\u00a0 With this in mind, the subject of Beyond Connectivity<\/em> will feature prominently on the agenda of next month\u2019s Mobile 360 \u2013 Digital Societies event in Kuala Lumpur.<\/p>\n

Examples of Beyond Connectivity<\/em> solutions include services across big data, machine learning, analytics, edge computing and distributed ledger technologies. They deliver substantial benefits to customers such as increased productivity, reduced costs and automated business processes as well as driving innovative new products and services, and new lines of business and business models.<\/p>\n

The APAC IoT Innovation Summit<\/a>, on 26 September, will feature the session IoT Capability Beyond Connectivity<\/em>. Here, leading operators and their partners in the vertical industries will present real life case studies and discuss where the business opportunities lie. Among the capabilities reviewed will be smart buildings and cities, connected agriculture, intelligent utilities and even smart car insurance. These IoT solutions will be presented by mobile operators including Maxis, Singtel, TM One and XL Axiata, as well as their key industry partners.<\/p>\n

Throughout the m360 Digital Societies event delegates can also see live demos of existing IoT solutions at the IoT Expo \u2013 Connected APAC<\/a>.\u00a0 XL Axiata\u2019s partnership with top Indonesian poultry producer Sierad Produce, for instance, uses a Smart Poultry Solutions, which exploring and nurturing NB-IoT to further enhance the solutions, to increase food and water efficiency, increase animal welfare, reduce costs, and help contract growers to leverage production while improving the quality of the meat they produce. With Indonesia\u2019s poultry market worth $34 billion and with 6% growth year on year \u2013 but only 2% of 12.7 million worker industry using IoT solutions so far \u2013 there are clear opportunities for growth here.\u00a0 Telekomcel\u2019s NB-IoT smart feeding system, which similarly uses connected sensors to detect the right frequency and quantity of food required in commercial fisheries, has already been deployed in 700 fish farms in Indonesia.<\/p>\n

Malaysian operator TM ONE will also be showcasing their intelligent traffic control system that provides central monitoring, data visualisation and analytics through a single platform. Where previously local authorities had no integrated means of visualising the factors impacting traffic, relevant team members can track developments in real time through a single monitoring dashboard and app, enabling swift implementation of support. Azizi A Hadi, Executive Vice President at TM ONE, commented<\/a> on the initiative that \u201cWe are excited to work hand in hand with JKR to accelerate the delivery of our digital services and solutions to help government agencies at addressing diverse challenges across various sectors such as transportation, safety and security, environmental and social sustainability and public services.
