MWC25 Barcelona Mobile Identity Summit gathered 15 speakers and attracted an audience of over 400 people interested in elevating digital trust through mobile identity.

The event demonstrated how mobile identity is becoming integral to the digital identity. Our key takeaways include:

The implementation of mobile identity is now well underway, particularly as the next generation of mobile authentication from SMS OTP

Infobip opened the summit by demonstrating the power of integrating mobile identity and network APIs into communication flows, including innovative RCS-enabled approaches. Their partnership with TIM Brasil showcased speed and success rate as key benefits. TikTok’s keynote addressed their journey to revolutionise mobile authentication. The panel discussion picked up on this area, with Christiaan Brand describing how Google continues to build on the power of the mobile number and evolve phone number verification.

Trust in communications relies on verified identity across the ecosystem

TransUnion keynote highlighted the need of protecting both the consumer and the calling organisation as well as how businesses benefit from decreased fraud and better conversion rates. Rebekah Johnson from Numeracle echoed the need to incorporate verifiable identity to address key challenges in trust and encouraged the industry to act in a fast-moving regulatory environment.

Digital identity wallets define and shape the future of mobile identity

Speakers from Telefonica and Deutsche Telekom offered a glimpse of mobile operators’ opportunities with digital wallets. Speakers agreed that identity wallet adoption is dependent on user utility, as demonstrated by Samsung’s experience with payment wallets, as well as Yoti’s learnings from age verification use cases. The discussion prompted reflection on the mobile industry’s participation in the future of digital identity.

Partnerships and collaboration were key themes throughout

With more speakers than we can list here, partnerships for scale and adoption was a central theme. The conversation doesn’t stop at MWC25. Join GSMA Identity and Data Community to connect with the ecosystem through knowledge sharing and strengthen mobile identity collaboration.
