MNO becomes ID custodian: certifies users&#8217; details to SPs as an out-sourced managed service or set of APIs.<\/p>\n<h3>Identity Brokerage<\/h3>\n<p>Essentially the mirror image of federated identity: information is shared with the operator (assuming customer consent) thereby enriching operator&#8217;s existing databases. This includes Single Sign-on solutions and identity network API&#8217;s. Subscriber data is sold to third parties so that they, in turn, can verify &amp; build customer profiles without investment in new data architecture, and also refine their product and service offerings.<\/p>\n<h3>Mobile Digital Signature<\/h3>\n<p>Consumers bring identity documents to their operator store, to be forwarded to a certifying authority (CA). CA verifies the user&#8217;s identity and issues a legally binding digital certificate (to the user&#8217;s mobile phone) and a PIN. When a user requests a service from a service provider, the latter checks the user&#8217;s identity with the CA through a secure PIN verification.<\/p>\n<h3>Second Factor Authentication<\/h3>\n<p>Use of mobile as a second factor overlay for more secure access to content (online and remote), location, services, etc., and to boost security of online transactions. Focus is on leveraging the SIM card to replace smartcard or hardware based authentication tokens.
