Session description
The global mobile industry is experiencing unprecedented growth with the proliferation of 5G connections surpassing 1.5 billion in 2023 and projected to exceed 3 billion by 2030, according to the latest insights from GSMA Intelligence.
At MWC24 Barcelona, operators worldwide showcased new APIs, underlining the significant advancements of the GSMA Open Gateway initiative, which now boasts 94 commercially available APIs across 21 markets. The GSMA Open Gateway initiative has taken a pivotal role in asserting the full potential of 5G connectivity by enabling operators to reshape networks into software-based systems, leveraging Open Gateway capabilities to unlock modern mobile networks to developer communities, fostering new digital services and applications. This approach not only facilitates the penetration of new vertical industries but also fosters the development of innovative business models for mobile operators.
The era of 5G and AI is offering a wealth of new and innovative network services, each requiring flexibility and programmability to align with the strategic objectives of mobile operators. The evolution to 5G-Advanced on 5G Standalone core networks signifies a significant leap forward in network infrastructure capabilities. This advancement empowers operators with programmable features through Open Gateway which can be fulfilled through autonomous networks driven by artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLM), poised to efficiently meet operational and customer service demands.
As the industry continues to progress towards modern network functionalities, we’ll be exploring the value of developing more capable, flexible and scalable 5G networks during the “Accelerating Open Gateway in the era of 5G-Advanced and AI ” Summit at MWC24 Shanghai. Throughout the summit, we’ll discuss how Open APIs are changing the telco industry landscape in the 5G era, explore the latest cutting edge 5G-Advanced applications, and address how AI and large language models have emerged as a pivotal driver and enabler for telco software-as-a-service.
To stay up to date on 5G networks globally, including Open Gateway advancements, and 5G-Advanced and 5G SA deployments, join the GSMA 5G Futures Community today.
