HAPS are very versatile: they can be adjusted to prioritise coverage or capacity depending on the use case. Moreover, an aircraft can be deployed to cover a location at short notice. As HAPS can employ LTE and 5G, there are no special requirements on the user equipment: a normal smartphone can be used. As a result, HAPS can support a variety of use cases for both developed and developing markets, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p2\">Greenfield coverage \u2013 providing coverage in areas with no cellular networks<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">White spot reduction \u2013 filling in gaps in cellular coverage<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">Emergency communications\/disaster recovery \u2013 backing up damaged terrestrial networks<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">The Internet of Things (IoT) \u2013 connecting sensors, appliances, machines and vehicles<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">Temporary coverage for events\/tourist hotspots \u2013 adding extra capacity in specific locations<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">Fixed wireless access &#8211; a broadband alternative to deploying fixed lines<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">Connectivity for urban air mobility and drones \u2013 providing better connectivity in the air<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">Private networks &#8211; enabling organisations to deploy their own cellular connectivity<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Terrestrial site backhaul \u2013 connecting base stations and edge data centres to the Internet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p2\">The white paper has been created
