A common theme across MWC Shanghai this year was the need for greater collaboration on shared goals. For example, Verizon highlighted efforts to close the digital divide and leverage 5G to increase access to life-enhancing services such as education and healthcare. Meanwhile, China Mobile and China Unicom noted increased demand for digital services in the wake of the pandemic and called for joint efforts to drive infrastructure rollout as well as innovation across transformative technologies, such as 5G, big data, AI and IoT.<\/p>\n

A key lesson from the global response to Covid-19 over the past year has been the importance of cooperation in tackling big issues in society. With digital technologies, and 5G in particular, set to shape the emerging post-Covid-19 world, the case for industry collaboration in efforts to advance the impact of connectivity on society has never been stronger. Last month, the GSMA joined other industry leaders on the recently formed Essential Digital Infrastructure and Services Network (EDISON) Alliance to work towards ensuring global and equitable access to the digital economy.<\/p>\n
