Announcements from CES on mixed-reality hardware launches, innovative displays and enterprise metaverse application platforms point to sustained interest in the metaverse. For example, TCL unveiled various wearable displays, including AR glasses that show navigational information and language translations; HTC announced a pair of lightweight, mixed-reality glasses; LG introduced a 3D sensing module for VR devices; and Nvidia expanded its Omniverse platform to enable the creation of interactive avatars.<\/p>\n

Such announcements remind us that to get to truly enjoyable metaverse applications, beyond content, we need the right hardware and software components. The metaverse will bring together immersive experiences, video projection, avatars and haptics, underpinned by AI and advanced connectivity. The telecoms world understands that the enabling technologies for mixed reality and metaverse applications will be 5G-Advanced and edge computing, so operators can help unlock the value of the metaverse. According to GSMA Intelligence <\/a>, in 2022, 22% of operators surveyed globally see opportunities in the consumer metaverse space and 38% identify opportunities in the enterprise metaverse.<\/p>\n
