{"id":8697,"date":"2016-09-30T17:21:10","date_gmt":"2016-09-30T16:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/solutions-and-impact\/technologies\/networks\/?post_type=digest&#038;p=8697"},"modified":"2025-02-17T01:34:29","modified_gmt":"2025-02-17T01:34:29","slug":"vendors-set-5g-journey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/solutions-and-impact\/technologies\/networks\/digest\/vendors-set-5g-journey\/","title":{"rendered":"Vendors set out on 5G journey"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LIVE FROM GSMA MOBILE 360 LATIN AMERICA, MEXICO: Speakers from Cisco, Ericsson and Qualcomm reflected on the scale of change to networks required in the future shift to 5G.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jose Ayala (pictured), Ericsson\u2019s head of government and industry relations for Latin America, described the \u201cenormous opportunity of transformation for industry and society\u201d, with operators at centre stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company\u2019s 2016 Mobility Report forecast 28 billion connected devices by 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ayala highlighted the contrasting demands on a network, from serving large numbers of low-power sensors in industrial settings against a smaller number of low-latency, big bandwidth devices that require high availability of service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile Hector Marin, senior director \u2013 government affairs, Qualcomm, cited three pillars to 5G \u2013 enhanced mobile broadband, mission critical services and massive IoT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like Ayala, he highlighted the scale of connectivity, the billions of devices added to the network through applications such as telemetry, each generating small amounts of data. \u201cThis represents a great challenge. How can we get all this?
