GSMA responds to German regulator’s 1800MHz band assignment plans

On 26th November, the GSMA responded to the German regulator, BNetzA, on its plans to assign the 700 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 1452-1492 MHz bands. Concern was raised regarding plans not to auction a 2×5 MHz block in the 1800 MHz band due to the perception that it might interfere with DECT devices. The GSMA highlighted that this portion of the band is already being used for LTE services in Europe without negatively impacting DECT users because their devices are able to detect mobile out of band emissions and retune to a different channel. In response, BNetzA decided to include the 2×5 MHz portion in the 1800MHz spectrum it will be auctioning in the second quarter of 2015.
