Child Online Protection: Consumer Awareness on Cybercrime

The Digital Bridge Institute organized a 3-day event themed around Child Online Protection, from the 15 – 17 October 2019, in Abuja, Nigeria.

The workshop included presentations from the Internet Governance Forum, Cece Yara Foundation, and the Office of the National Security Adviser, all highlighting the dangers that could exist with children accessing the internet, building a culture of responsibility online, and the role of government and law enforcement in this regard.

MTN Nigeria further made a presentation on some products and services that existed in its portfolio intended to provide a safe online environment for children. On the third day of the workshop, the GSMA delivered a Capacity Building Workshop on Child Online Protection. It was well attended with more than 35 attendees representing over 10 government agencies and ministries.

The Nigeria Communications Commission noted that a framework would be developed to provide guidance to the industry and consumers on child online protection and the Ministry of Women Affairs would also champion a cause to see to the development of a National Response Plan on Child Online Sexual Exploitation
