CRASA Electronic Communication Committee Meeting

In line with our new strategy of engaging with the Communications Regulators’ Association of Southern Africa (CRASA), the GSMA attended the first meeting of the Electronic Communications Committee (ECC) for 2019/20, which was held from 3-5 July 2019 at the Instituto Angolano das Communicacoes (INACOM) House hosted by INACOM.

Representatives from six (6) CRASA members, the GSMA and Telkom South Africa participated in the meeting.

As the tenure of the Committee chairperson had come to an end, the first Session of the meeting was dedicated to the election of a new Chairperson and Vice Chairperson for the period 2019 to 2023. Botswana and Namibia were elected as Chairperson and Vice Chairperson respectively.

The GSMA delivered a presentation on Spectrum Pricing, making recommendations on specific principles that should be considered when pricing spectrum and also participated in the drafting of the chapter on Spectrum Pricing as part of the SADC Spectrum Policy Model being drafted by the committee.

The pricing principles advocated for by the GSMA were provided and adopted as input into the chapter on spectrum pricing and the GSMA will be reaching out to CRASA to put in place an MoU that will facilitate collaboration.
