This was held in Kasane, Botswana, from 19-22 March 2019 and the GSMA was represented by Fraser Graham and Kamal Tamawa. They delivered presentations and moderated a conversation that introduced the ICT Senior Officials to the Harmonised Data Protection Framework review project which the GSMA and the SADC Secretariat are collaborating on.
The GSMA also participated in an Industry Workshop, providing insight into the concept of Big Data, its applications and use cases, and how Big Data can be applied for Social Good. The insights were well-received by the ICT Senior Officials, particularly within the context on on-going efforts to drive the SADC towards the benefits of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
The meetings were well attended and high profile, with more than 40 representatives from SADC Member States’ ICT Ministries, NRAs and the private sector. GSMA’s profile was significantly boosted, with the Association increasingly being viewed by regional ICT officials as a critical partner in ICT discourse.
