Standardization Forum: Roadmap for 5G Implementation in Côte d’Ivoire

The 10th Telecommunications Standardization forum was held in Yammoussoukro from 18 to 20 December 2019 at the invitation of Regulation Telecommunications Authority of Côte d’Ivoire (ARTCI) focused on ‘Roadmap for 5G implementation in Côte d’Ivoire’.

The meeting was opened by the Technical Advisor to the Minister of Telecommunications, Mr. Sylvestre Mpoue, along with the GSMA, HUAWEI and ARTCI.

The forum started with presentations from ARTCI, the GSMA and HUAWEI. ARTCI carried out an overview of the telecoms sector in Côte d’Ivoire. The GSMA made a presentation on the challenges of 5G in Africa, emphasizing that it was necessary to be well prepared and not to go too fast because the operators have not yet fully benefited from their 4G license. Huawei gave a presentation on its 5G products and gave a global situation of 5G.

The GSMA also moderated one of the panels relating to the prerequisites, which must lead to a successful implementation of 5G. This panel was attended by a university professor, ANSUT, ERICSSON and MTN.

The forum ended with a roadmap validated by the participants. This roadmap was given to the Technical Advisor of the ICT Minister by the Director General of ARTCI. On the sidelines of this forum, The GSMA held bilaterals meetings with ARTCI, MOOV, MTN and UNETEL.
