In support of the United Nation’s 63rd gathering of the Commission on the Status of Women and of EQUALS, GSMA hosted a day-long workshop where girls will learn to build, assemble, and code a Kano Laptop. The GSMA North America,  Latin America, and International Relations teams worked together to host the workshop at the British Telecom (BT) Americas headquarters office in New York. Twenty girls aged between 10 and 14 were selected from five schools in the New York districts, and learned curriculum on coding using Kano Computers. In addition to British Telecom, supporting partners included: Kano Computing, who donated the equipment and computers for the event; the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development; International Telecommunication Union (ITU); The Trust for the Americas (OAS); and Engineering for Change. Strong media coverage was present at the event, including the The Manhattan Times News.
