Electromagnetic spectrum in Chile: ASIET and GSMA express concern about current situation
The highest representatives of GSMA and ASIET in the region announced that, if the issue of frequency bands is not remedied, Chile will not have 5G. Following the Department of Telecommunications (Subtel) decision to suspend the 3500MHz band (auctioned in 2001) and a Supreme Court judgment ordering companies that participated in the 700MHz auction to return spectrum, Sebastian Cabello, Head of Latin America, GSMA, and Pablo Bello, Executive Director, ASIET, travelled to Santiago for an intense round of meetings to contribute their vision on this scenario and the potential outcomes and risks for the provision of mobile services in Chile.

Mobile World Congress Americas 2018 is moving to Los Angeles, home of the major studios, where it will focus on the convergence of the mobile industry and the content and media sectors. Leading executives from the global entertainment industry will be in Los Angeles from 12 to 14 September to attend the event and deliver keynotes. Programmes such as Women4Tech and 4YFN Startup Conference will be holding sessions and the Latin America Media & Convergent Services Summit will take place on 13 September. The summit will be the key event of the convergent world about our region.

Mobile will be a key technology to tackle climate change and help develop smart solutions to ensure responsible economic growth across Latin America. The report provides a series of public policy recommendations and analyses how the ICT industry is enabling the reduction of carbon emissions across all sectors, reducing its own ecological footprint at the same time.

CRC workshop in Colombia: Innovation and growth in the ICT sector

Global ICT Capacity Building Symposium
Belinda Exelby spoke on “Skills for an Inclusive Digital Society” at the ITU CBS Capacity Building Symposium in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. During her presentation, she highlighted the role of CE-Digital as a capacity building centre for regulators in Latin America.

GSMA and W20 support digital gender equality
Mobile industry to take part in Argentina W20 Summit
From 1 to 3 October, at the Kirchner Cultural Centre in Buenos Aires, Women 20 will be holding a summit to discuss the final recommendations on gender equality and women’s empowerment and deliver them to the G20 leaders. In its role as Topic Chair, the GSMA has led the public policy recommendations on women’s digital inclusion. Summit participants will include Mats Granryd, Director General of the GSMA, and Rachel Samrén, EVP Chief External Affairs Officer, Millicom, who will represent the industry on gender digital inclusion.
