Nokia has partnered with Telefónica to collaborate on the development of the private network market in Spain. The partnership will target “key mission-critical industries”, such as ports, manufacturing and logistics, designed to improve productivity, worker safety and sustainability in the Spanish enterprise market. In a separate move, Nokia is also partnering with MVNO and telecoms infrastructure specialist Solis to provide private networks for Brazilian agriculture businesses in rural areas. Nokia revealed it has now deployed a mission-critical network to more than 2,600 enterprise customers in the transport, energy, large enterprise, manufacturing, web-scale and public-sector segments worldwide, representing more than 730 private wireless customers.
These announcements underscore the increasing traction for mobile private networks among enterprise and government organisations, representing a growing opportunity for MNOs and MVNOs. There are various paths to monetise this opportunity, as highlighted by recent GSMA Intelligence research.
