Skylo Technologies has completed the first voice calls using NB-NTN, leveraging its MSS spectrum approvals in 36 countries to enable rapid rollout. The new Skylo Voice Gateway uses AI-native codecs to deliver high-quality calls with over 10x data efficiency compared to traditional cellular voice. By translating satellite links into standard SIP/RTP, it ensures seamless integration with MNO networks and smartphones. At the June 2025 3GPP meeting, Skylo’s joint proposal for NTN native voice calling was approved as a Release 20 work item, advancing global satellite-based voice communications.
