As of Spring 2020 GSMA and UC Berkeley have launched an initiative to advance the academic foundations that will enable greater, more rapid innovation using 5G and AI.
These advanced project courses are based on an applied, practical framework “engineering innovation” designed at UC Berkeley for learning and applying AI, data science, and emerging technologies. This fills a gap between theory and practice to empower the rapid development of AI projects with an innovative approach to solve business problems.
The “Innovating on 5G Mobile Networks with AI” course will allow UC Berkeley students to develop the concepts and actual implementations for new services for 5G mobile communication. 5G is more than a new generation of technologies; it denotes a new era in which connectivity will become increasingly fluid and flexible. 5G Networks will adapt to applications and performance will be tailored precisely to the needs of the user. 5G combined with AI has the power to change how we interact with the world.
Students will learn directly from the experts in leading telecommunication companies – experience real world scenarios, challenges and opportunities – and then implement the concepts within the course. The course is intended for both undergraduate and graduate students to develop innovative projects starting from initial concept though implementation in areas that include Data/AI and systems.
