Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC (“STEP”) is a purpose-led technology and communication company committed to contributing Ethiopia’s digital transformation and inclusion agenda.

In May 2021, an international consortium named the Global Partnership for Ethiopia (GPE), comprising Safaricom Plc, Vodacom Group, Vodafone Group, Sumitomo Corporation and CDC Group, was awarded a license to operate the second telecom network in Ethiopia. In July 2021, a new Telecommunications Operator License was issued to GPE under its registered name: Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC.
