The Launch of the Centre Will Unleash the Next Chapter of 5G Innovation; Winners of the 2022 Asia Mobile Awards Announced at the Forum

29 July 2022, London: Today, the GSMA, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) and Deutsche Telekom have launched the 5G IN Digital Ecosystem Innovation Centre. The centre will supercharge 5G innovation among creators and innovators, leveraging industry expertise from partners to transform industries, drive sustainable growth and innovation, and unlock the full power of 5G. The launch comes following the joint Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the GSMA, HKSTP and Deutsche Telekom in March this year.

The launch event of the 5G IN Digital Ecosystem Innovation Centre and 5G IN Leadership Forum was held at the Hong Kong Science Park, bringing together leaders from the digital ecosystem to discuss strategies for nurturing innovation.

As 5G becomes a driver of economic growth across industries, GSMA and the partners will empower the Centre as a hub of collaboration that enables improved lab environments, showroom space, international exchange, and project co-operation. The development and evolution of technology is constantly driving social and business change and creating new growth opportunities, with the pace of change always accelerating in our increasingly digital world. As a result, all industries have an opportunity to embrace innovators and sustainable innovation in order to thrive.

“Connectivity is a global driver of innovation, and this is exactly what the 5G IN Digital Ecosystem Innovation Centre wants to accelerate. The GSMA is now delighted to join hands with HKSTP and Deutsche Telekom to provide innovators with a prosperous and creative platform where they can connect and influence with each other to grow and scale,” said Sihan Bo Chen, the GSMA’s Head of Greater China.

Albert Wong, CEO of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation said, “HKSTP will continue to collaborate with stakeholders from government, industry, academic and research sectors to capitalise on the abundant opportunities arising from the national 14th Five-Year Plan. We are pleased to cooperate with the GSMA and Deutsche Telekom to attract technology companies from the 5G ecosystem. We look forward to more participation from tech ventures, so they can make full use of the advantages and resources from our innovation & technology ecosystem, to deliver greater value.”

“The 5G IN Innovation Center is another initiative to drive 5G use cases and bring innovation to the industry. Startups and developers benefit from our international expertise in developer and incubation programs and direct market access through DT’s large global customer base. Network and 5G experts in our local teams in Hong Kong can provide mentoring and on-site support for startups on how to become internationally successful. In this joint effort, we are accelerating innovation on 5G applications and supporting the local ecosystem while creating the best experiences for our customers,” said Sean Seaton, SVP, Group Partnering & Devices, Deutsche Telekom.
