With the recent FCC ruling granting waivers that permits the deployment of C-V2X (Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything) technology, next generation 5G and its role in a new era in automotive and transportation once again moves into the spotlight.

In fact, the number of connected vehicles in service is forecast to reach 367 million globally in 2027, up from 192 million in 2023, according to a new study from Juniper Research.  The research identified 5G’s high speed and low-latency capabilities as transformative to these goals, requiring effective collaborations between automotive OEMs and operators to realize.

The 5G Connected Car Summit at MWC Las Vegas will explore the latest in connected car technology, applications and use cases. Sessions will feature early adopters and enabling technology that are driving new business in V2N (vehicle-to-network); V2I (vehicle-to-infrastructure) and V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle) applications.

As cars equipped with 5G modems start to ramp in the 2025-26 timeframe, there will be enhanced services in the areas of entertainment, information, navigation and OTA (over-the-air) updates. Existing fleets too have emerged with Cellular IoT applications that offer enhanced traffic solutions and automobile data services.

Network connectivity is ushering in a new era in mobile, automotive and wireless infrastructure industries, and MWC Las Vegas kicks off in 2023 with a new focus on 5G and the Connected Car.

Who Should Attend:

  • Automakers and Automotive OEMs
  • Mobile Network Operators
  • Wireless Infrastructure developers
  • 4G, 5G and MEC technology solutions providers
  • Fleet Owners and Operators
  • Cloud Services and Hyperscalers
  • State Departments of Transportation

Agenda:

9:00am The Connected Car Marketplace: Releasing the Connectivity Kraken?
Car makers are moving quickly to optimize vehicle connectivity in support of software updates, subscription revenue opportunities, and autonomous and semi-autonomous driving. The struggle with hardware, software, and connectivity costs continues, forcing tough decisions as the industry prepares for the widespread adoption of 5G, C-V2X, and satellite connectivity. Meanwhile the onset of cloud and edge computing and artificial intelligence are adding to the spin cycle. Roger will assess what the next 5-10 years will look like for vehicle connectivity.
Roger Lanctot, Director, Automotive Connected Mobility, Tech Insights

9:15am How 5G is Creating a New Paradigm for Vehicles
5G is enabling a world where everyone and everything can be intelligently connected – including vehicles. Connectivity plays a pivotal role in the automotive industry’s digital transformation as it lays the foundation for next-generation, software-defined vehicles. The automotive industry is already taking advantage of 5G technology, and by 2035, 5G is expected to enable more than $2.4 trillion in economic output across the broader automotive sector – almost 20 percent of the projected global impact of 5G. In this session, hear from Qualcomm Technologies – the leader in wireless technology and innovation – about the many ways in which 5G is transforming and will continue to accelerate change in the automotive industry, including:
• What new opportunities for personalization, entertainment, and productivity features is 5G connectivity bringing to drivers?
• How is 5G helping to advance navigation and autonomous driving features?
• How is 5G enabling AI-driven in-vehicle experiences – and what’s ahead?
Jeff Arnold, Vice President, Product Management, Qualcomm

9:40am AT&T & The Connected Car Ecosystem
With transportation becoming more connected and software-defined, the opportunity is high to expand service offerings beyond in-vehicle connectivity to an end-to-end suite of connected services. AT&T and automotive ecosystem enablers offer a future-view of the road ahead and how the mobile technology ecosystem will serve the entire transportation sector with the innovation that delivered the mobile and smartphone revolution. Moderated by Roger Lanctot, Director Automotive Connected Mobility, Tech Insights
• Ashton Pierre, Director – Business Development, Connected Car at AT&T
• Brandon Blumber, Sr Manager, Business Development, Rivian
• Michael Kirk, IoT Global Expansion, Vodafone
• Pete Wood, SVP Digital Distribution, Sony Pictures Entertainment

10:10am Case Study: V2X at Curiosity Lab in Peachtree Corners, Georgia
Peachtree Corners, Georgia, one of the nation’s leading smart cities powered by real-world connected infrastructure and 5G – describes its collaboration with Spoke, Bosch, and Commsignia to transform roadway safety and rider connectivity by delivering the first ever connected IoT ecosystem for vulnerable road users (VRUs). Spoke’s VRU2X system leverages three levels of connectivity within the mobility system: C-V2X to provide direct and immediate communication between cars and VRUs; LTE/5G cellular communications for advanced contextual awareness alerts between cars and VRUs; and finally, a camera/radar system for vehicle identification and visualization.
• Brendan Branham, CTO, Peachtree Corners, Georgia
• Reid Sigety, Chief Strategy and Operation Officer Spoke Safety
• Brad Stertz, VP Government Affairs, Audi of America

10:40am CCC Digital Key – Ecosystem Interoperability is the Key to Superior Customer Experience
Daniel Knobloch, Vice President, Car Connectivity Consortium

11:00am Panel: Finding Total Value in a V2X-Connected Transportation Ecosystem
At the heart of the connected vehicle revolution is to determine and offer value to all participants, with a focus on the driver and other transportation users. With automakers increasingly emphasizing services in their business strategies, this session to explore:
• What are the models of connected services, and how can we collectively choose the right strategy?
• How is aggregated data from V2X exchanges enabling services in transportation?
• What impact will connected vehicles have on everyday drivers/passengers, vulnerable road users, and the public sector – and how does each deploying stakeholder realize that value?
• How are technology companies helping automakers and others in the transportation system rethink future strategies?
o Jason Currie, Senior Business Development, IoT Connected Car, AT&T
o Jim Misener, Senior Director, Product Management, V2X Global Ecosystem Lead, Qualcomm
o Yev Khessin, CTO, Digital Infrastructure Inc., Cofounder, DIMO
o Owen Moore, CEO, BeWhere
