About the GSMA Innovation Fund for Rural Connectivity

The GSMA Innovation Fund for Rural Connectivity aims to support innovative mobile internet connectivity solutions for unconnected rural communities.

The project grants funds for mobile network equipment vendors to deploy their rural connectivity solutions for the first time globally, with partnering MNOs in Uganda and Ghana.

The vendors and their partners have now been selected and will be awarded up to £330,000 each for implementing turnkey solutions to suit challenging rural environments with low population density, difficult terrain or limited infrastructure. Each project was judged on its ability to provide solutions that are innovative, scalable and commercially sustainable.

The sites will be located in deep rural communities not covered by a mobile signal and will be fully integrated into Vodafone’s network in Ghana and MTN’s in Uganda. Hear more in our interview with the CEO of MTN Uganda.
