The problem

Across the world access to education in humanitarian settings remains a significant challenge. Women and girls in particular are impacted by this global crisis. Without access to quality learning resources that are tailored to the learner and cultural setting, systems of poverty and marginalisation are reinforced and prevent resilience and improved livelihoods.

The company

The Rumie Initiative is a non-profit based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The organisation develops and delivers low-cost technology that enables the distribution of digital learning resources to communities with limited Internet access.

Project description

Rumie is an award-winning technology non-profit that creates innovative technology solutions to facilitate free online learning content creation and digital distribution. The content is accessible to learners around the world on devices of their choice and works even when learners have little or no Internet connectivity. Our tool, Rumie-Build, enables rapid, collaborative authoring of digital bite-size micro-learning modules by partner organisations or volunteers. Access to these learning modules is through Rumie-Learn, which is always free to learners and is a mobile-first, data-driven library of localised microlearning content on topics designed to meet the learner’s needs. The platform is cohesive, accessible and interactive, collecting learner feedback every step of the way.
