Wiseyak

Nepal | Connectivity, Digital Inclusion

The company

Wiseyak is an Artificial Intelligence company specialising in AI-driven solutions that empower organisations with automation and data analytics across multiple industries.

The problem

Uptake of essential services such as health insurance, financial services, agricultural services, and government services remains low in Nepal. Limited literacy and a poor understanding of the market, including pricing and product availability, are key factors behind this. This situation is particularly challenging for Maithili-speaking communities, who remain underserved due to the language barrier. Despite growing smartphone penetration, many rural users, including Maithili communities, still depend on keypad phones that only support SMS and voice.

GSMA project

In November 2025, Wiseyak received a GSMA grant to develop a multilingual (English, Nepali, Maithili) conversational AI solution that will help reduce the digital divide by addressing linguistic barriers in Nepal. The core functionalities include speech-to-text (STT), text-to-speech (TTS), and voice-to-voice. These are designed for business clients ranging from medium to large enterprises. Companies such as banks, insurance, agritech, and MNOs can utilise the conversational AI solutions to help rural customers access their respective services. Additionally, the project will explore call centre digitalisation with MNOs to streamline generic questions before being handled by human operators. Wise Yak’s solutions are deployed on-premise, which ensures data security for large corporate clients.

A message from the founders

“Our team at Wiseyak is excited to be part of GSMA Innovation Fund for Impactful AI 2025. We are truly delighted to embark on a mission of building reliable, low cost, localised, impactful AI systems to serve the needs of Nepal. This milestone marks the beginning of a journey to enhance the quality of life for Nepalese citizens through meaningful technology. The GSMA Impactful AI initiative reinforces our belief in delivering products and services that drive real change for our B2B partners and their customers. Nepal’s diverse geography, languages, economic conditions, and literacy levels have long created barriers to access basic services in finance, agriculture, insurance, etc.

While mobile technology has bridged many of these gaps, marginalised groups, especially women, continue to face limitations due to restricted device access, low internet penetration, social and cultural dynamics, and the dominance of English in the digital ecosystem. Through the development of multilingual (English, Nepali, Maithili, etc.) voice-to-voice large language model technologies integrated into call centres and customer touch-points for B2B companies, we will empower service providers to reach and serve underserved communities more effectively. This represents a crucial step towards last-mile AI coverage, ensuring that AI works for everyone, helping bridge divides, expand access to essential services, and foster economic participation. Together with GSMA, Wiseyak is committed to leading this effort, inspiring greater investment in inclusive, localised AI, and building a sustainable, impact-driven business model that truly serves the local population.”
