Privacy and Marketing
Delivering commercial propositions responsibly
Impact of mobile technology
Children have the right to privacy and protection from exploitation. While mobile operators typically advertise to adults, and not children, they can support these rights by practicing responsible marketing – for example, considering the appropriate use of children in mobile phone advertisements – and establishing policies that set out how mobile phone users’ privacy is respected.
To help families manage privacy risks, mobile operators can partner with expert organisations to create awareness campaigns as well as encouraging product developers to follow a privacy-by-design approach. They can also provide transparent information about cost of services and data usage and offer tools to manage spending. In many countries, particular care must be applied to the collection and use of children’s personal information and behavioural data.
