Sexual Exploitation
Taking steps to combat the sexual exploitation of children
Impact of mobile technology
Governments must protect children from all forms of sexual abuse and exploitation. By putting policies and processes in place, such as Notice and Takedown, mobile operators can help to combat the misuse of their services for accessing, hosting and sharing illegal digital child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
Mobile operators can provide guidance for law enforcement agencies for investigations into crimes against children that require the operator’s assistance. They can also work with expert organisations to make educational materials available to families on how online services may be used for inappropriate contact towards children (grooming) and the risks of sharing intimate images online (sexting). In addition, they can support and promote child helplines so that children can report sexual abuse and get the help they need.
