T-Mobile US pushes 5G, satellite and fibre

T-Mobile US has unveiled SuperBroadband, a new fixed broadband solution for businesses that brings together the operator’s 5G-Advanced network and Starlink’s broadband. The goal is to deliver built-in network redundancy, nationwide coverage (every ZIP code in the US) and simplified operations (a fully managed service with one contract/bill). T-Mobile also announced two fibre JVs, which expand its fibre footprint. The operator sees fibre as a complementary part of its fixed wireless access (FWA) portfolio and is targeting 18–19 million fixed broadband customers by 2030, including 3–4 million fibre customers.

While 5G (mobile and FWA) continues to serve as a key growth engine for T-Mobile, satellite and fibre add incremental capacity and opportunities. This highlights how complementary networks can help expand reach and allow the deployment of cost-efficient solutions. Beyond complementarity, seamless integration (e.g. between 5G and satellite in SuperBroadband) is increasingly important, especially for enterprise customers. Offering network redundancy through a single service reduces the complexity of finding and managing primary and back-up internet providers. In some remote and rural areas of the US, a second fixed broadband internet provider may not actually be available.
